We opened as DMD Tuning in Jan 2009 but have been working in the performance and automotive industry for a combined of 30+ Years.
It started with my father back in the mid to late 70’s working for Williams Adams Cat and having his own performance engines as a side business working on Ford, Holden and Chev V8’s and inline 6’s.
After leaving Cat he run his own transport business in which all the maintenance and repairs were done in house, the transport still exist but on a much smaller scale.

WTAC 2013
Club President and his DMD Tuning team headed up to Sydney Motorsport park to compete in the 2013 WTAC, here is what unfolded leading up to and during the event.
We worked many late nights leading up to World time attach 2013. The R31 had no engine fitted the Sunday before we were meant to be in Sydney that next Wednesday.
After many phone calls and running around at suppliers to get the last few engine parts and engine parts machined we had a long week end ahead of us putting an engine together and fitted into the car.
With Bathurst playing in the background we got to work putting the engine together deep into Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. as it had it the engine went together very well with no issues which is exactly what we needed as if we had any issues we would not be getting to Sydney.
Along comes Monday and we were putting the final touches on the engine fitment and ready to fire up and break it in on the Dyno.
After the initial fire up and Dyno break-in and tune check up we loaded it up on the trailer ready to get a final wheel alignment at Amberley Wheel alignment in Dandenong.
Tuesday comes around wheel alignment is done and time to pack up the ute with all the spares and get ready to set off for the trip to Sydney on the Wednesday.
We get to Sydney Motorsport park mid afternoon unpack all the tools and get the car ready for scrutineering. The car goes through with a few small tweaks to fire extinguisher location but all is ready to hit practice Thursday morning.
We get to the track nice and early and warm up the car ready to hit the track.
First season comes along and as we have had no track testing time we hit a few issues. First issues is the fiberglass voltex rear wing down the main straight was collapsing in the middle above 150km/hr. We backed off the cross brace tension which seemed to help in the second season but the damage to wing was already done. Second issue we faced was the rear head drain was not hooked up and we had the catch can fill up after a few laps and leak onto the exhaust. With a quick run to fitting shop we had the head drain hooked up and we moved the catch can over to the drivers side away from the exhaust.
We still had a issue with the rear wing for the rest of the day that the car could not be opened up to full throttle down the main straight, we were lapping around the 2 min 2 second mark, not ideal at all.
With the day done and dusted the team did some brain storming and we came up with a solution that we thought should fix our wing issue. We jumped into the ute and by this stage it was after 5pm so we headed down to bunnings to see what aluminium we could get, we also had plan A was to fill the void in the wing with builders expander foam. We grab all we can and head back to the track.
After Drilling a few 10mm holes in the bottom of the wing and race taping up the crack we begin to fill the wing up with foam. It started to expand out all the holes and fill up the whole void in the wing.
We get back in the morning to find the foam has expanded out the holes and the wing was solid and real stiff, it looks like we are on a winner. After a quick clean up of the overspill of foam and some black race tap over the holes we were ready to test the mods in the first season.
Out we go in the first season and the wing did its job as it should have and didn’t flex at all, the first time all weekend the car was opened up to its full potential, gee did it feel good but was still slow around 1:56 second mark.
After coming into the pits we were faced with another issue, because we had fitted a R33 GTSt brake booster and master the clevis adjustment wasn’t 100% perfect, after this first full hot season it was found that the little adjustment we did have on the pedal had now been taken up and the front right brake was dragging, smoke was poring out of this wheel and the paint on the rim was blistering.
Once the car was just cool enough to work on the booster came out and the pivot rod was shortened and adjusted up so we had some heat expansion room.
Out we go in the third and last season for the day and we set a 1:52 lap time, we have not yet touched any chassis setup and basically only played around with tyre pressures. With the car being very over steery it was time to brainstorm to see where we can get some rear grip.
With the rear axle and control arms being stock with no adjustment basically the only thing we can touch is rear shock and ride height. we soften the rear up a little and raise the height as it was far to low.
Out we go in the first season and the car was a little better but it was all down to getting some laps in now and trying to drive with what we had. Lap time come down once again 1:49.
Second session comes along and the track temp has come up a little more, we roll out and better our time again 1:48.5 things are looking good. One thing I did note that the boost pressure from the start of the weekend to the second session sat is that the peak boost was down around 2psi, its looking like the Holset turbo is on its way out.
We go out in the final session of sat ready and pumped to cut a better lap time. We head out behind the red RX7 as we were cutting around the same lap times all weekend, a good carrot to chase in the final session. I put down our best time for the weekend a 1:47.7 then the red flag comes out. In the pits we go, after a few short mins the track is clear and we go back out for a quick warm up lap and one last flying lap for the weekend. This time I am in front od the Red RX7 I put down a consistent 1:47.9 but as we get back to the pit the RX7 put down a 1:47.5 and pipped us at the post.
Overall we had a great weekend even tho of the lack of preparation and short time frame to get everything all together to get up from Melbourne to Sydney for the event. We just fell short of our target of 1:45 but we got some great data and looking forward to 2014.
We would like to thank Ian and the WTAC team for putting on a great event and everyone involved on getting us to Sydney.
